• Image that is created is what your eye would perceive if looking into mirror

Curved Mirror Equations

• Used to find:

  • Location of image ( distance from mirror )
  • Size of image , and whether it is right-side-up or upside-down

• This is pretty detailed

• Finding location of image

• But pay attention to sign of $i,o,andf$$i , o,\ and\ f$

• Positive values:

  • $o$$o$ in front of mirror ( front is shiny, reflecting side)
  • $i$$i$ in front of mirror
  • $f$$f$ if concave

  

  

  • otherwise use negative sign

  • You might be thinking , how can $i$$i$ or $o$$o$ be negative ?

    • That would mean something is behind the mirror, when there is no light.
    • But it can happen
    • For example, the image in a flat mirror is behind the mirror

     

    

• Finding size of image :

  $$\frac{HeightoftheImage(h^{{}^{\prime }})}{HeightoftheObject(h)}=\frac{RadiusofCurvature(R)-i}{o-RadiusofCurvature(R)}=\frac{DistanceofImageFromMirror(i)}{DistanceObjectFromMirror(o)}$$
  • So once you use the other equation to find $i$$i$ , use this to find $h^{{}^{\prime }}$$h^{'}$
  • $h^{{}^{\prime }}$$h^{'}$ is the image size
  • if $h^{{}^{\prime }}$$h^{'}$ is positive , that means the images is upside-down
